In February 2003 I marched against the coming Iraq war - it was an excuse to hook up with some friends I hadn't seen for a while. I hadn't really thought about the rights and wrongs of it, but I resented the fact that a decision seemed to already have been made.
It was the same with Russell Brand. Suddenly he was everywhere, a coming star, but I couldn't see why - it seemed like it had been pre-ordained in the Groucho club, without my say-so.
I'm man enough to admit that I was wrong, about Iraq and about Brand. You know better than I, shadowy cigar-smoking cabal of hegemons!
